about

Rab Town, located on the SW side of the island of Rab, is the main settlement of the island and the home to ACI Marina Rab. Rab Island lies in the Kvarner Gulf, 10 miles E of Cres island, 6 miles S of Krk island and 3 miles N of Pag. The island is separated from the mainland by Velebitski Kanal, which is known for very strong northerly winds (bura). The marina is safe in most conditions, although strong S and SE winds can cause uncomfortable and potentially dangerous waves, especially in the winter season when the mooring lines may rip loose, which is why the marina is closed during winter. ACI marina Rab is open from April 1 to October 31.

Useful Information

Facilities in the small town of Rab include an ambulance, pharmacy, post office, police station, supermarkets and grocery stores, shopping centre, farmer’s market, fish market and many restaurants.

The island is connected to the mainland via Jablanac – Mišnjak ferry route. During the summer the ferry line Lopar – Baška connects it with Krk Island. You can reach Lopar (in the north of the island) and the town of Rab by bus. The nearest airport is on Krk Island.

When approaching the marina, navigating between Cape Frkanj and Frkanj Shoal, be careful of the several shoals nearby – Frkanj Shoal, which lies around 400 metres SE of Cape Frkanj (marked by green lighthouse), and Vela Sika Shoal, located a further 500 metres SE. The entry to the harbour is marked by a red lighthouse on Cape Sv. Ante and a green lighthouse on Tunera Islet. It is recommended to sail closer to the cape because the water is very shallow near Tunera islet.
