Marina Veli Rat is situated in the most indented part of Pantera Bay, Čuna Cove, in the NW part of Dugi Otok Island, 10 miles SW from the city of Zadar. Dugi Otok is part of the Zadar Archipelago and is very close to Kornati National Park and Telašćica Nature Park, which makes it an exciting sailing destination. The marina offers safe shelter in most weather conditions and from all winds, although some swells are possible during strong NW winds. Marina Veli Rat is open all year round. The busiest time is during high season, in July and August.
Marina Veli Rat has two long pontoons with 200 wet berths, all of which are equipped with water and electricity. However, water and electricity are only available for 4 hours in the morning (8 – 12 a.m.) and 6 hours in the evening (4 – 10 p.m.) during high season (July and August), and for 4 hours in the morning (8 – 12 a.m.) and 3 hours in the evening (5 – 8 p.m.) during low season. The marina can accommodate boats and yachts up to 20 m in length. Sea depth at the pontoons ranges from 3 to 4 m. Boats with bigger drafts should moor on the outside of the north pontoon.
There are few facilities in the small village of Veli Rat – post office, shop, private accommodation and restaurants. There is no cash machine in the village, but money can be exchanged at the post office. Ambulance, police, small farmer’s market, hotels, bakeries, port authority (harbourmaster’s office) and seasonal border crossing can be found in the small nearby town of Božava, approximately 7 km from Veli Rat. The nearest gas station is in Zaglav, near Sali, on the south end of the island, approximately 40 km from Veli Rat. The closest general hospital and airport is in Zadar.
There is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Croatia called Sakarun nearby. Also worth visiting is the Veli Rat lighthouse, the highest lighthouse in Croatia, from where you can enjoy the stunning panoramic view of the sea and nearby islands and islets.
The island is connected to the mainland and other islands by ferry. Local buses connect other towns and villages on the island. When approaching the marina by boat, through Pantera Bay, be sure to keep to the west shore since there are many shoals in the middle of the bay.
